How to register a business in Ghana: a step-by-step guide

5 June 2026 · 7 min read

Registering your business properly protects you, builds credibility, and opens doors to financing and contracts. Here is the process, step by step.

1. Choose the right structure

Sole proprietorship, partnership, company limited by shares or by guarantee — each has different implications for tax, liability and ownership. Choose based on your goals, not just convenience.

2. Conduct a name search

Confirm your preferred business name is available and reserve it with the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC).

3. Prepare and submit documents

Complete the incorporation forms and submit them with the required details of directors, shareholders and registered office.

4. Obtain your TIN and certificates

You will need a Tax Identification Number (TIN) and, where applicable, VAT registration to trade and invoice properly.

5. Stay compliant from day one

Registration is the start, not the finish. Keep up with annual returns and tax filings. We handle the whole process and keep you compliant afterwards.
